Well, the night of my cd release show was a night of dreams unfolding... coming true in the glare of lights and amplified sound.
Kim Tribble assembled a killer band for the record. Percussionist and County Q Studio owner Paul Scholten, charted and laid down the foundation. We cut the tracks in March and Dave Pomeroy applied his genius bass to complete that backbone, J. T. Corenflos (lead) and Steve Sheehan (rhythm) fleshed out the structure with their amazing guitar work. Jimmy Nichols tickled the ivories and painted every room he touched with colors of love and other heartfelt emotion. The basic tracks went down quickly, effortlessly and on the mark. I have never had a section click in so soulfully and in the moment of each song. It was Magic.
Jonathan Yudkin's amazing cello parts on STONES and WHEN YOU GIVE UP YOU'RE GONE... were spell binding. Thom Flora's backing vocals were like my own shadow dancing along beside me. And the choir that was all Jason Eskridge on NOW was heaven on earth. One of God's blessed angelic voices!
The vocal comps, the mixes, the whole thing was a labor of love for everyone involved. That's what they each told me at one time or another. :) All I felt was love while it was happening.
When the band agreed to play on my live show. Paul used sparingly the pro tool stems to fill out the overdubs and the result was beyond my wildest dreams.
Paul loaned us County Q Studios to rehearse with phones... the band was digging it. After each run through of once or twice... there was a moment of silence... then the whoop whoop of praise of songs and vocals... I had never felt so in the pocket... so connected to musicians before.
I had the flu Thanksgiving through Christmas... my voice was a bit ragged still, but my main concern was the heavy topic of the evening. I have always been a good time performer. I was concerned how the audience would take my message I wanted so badly to get out there through this record, show, my life really.
I felt the band's solidity behind my ever move, I felt my songs like bullets meet their target... I felt the standing room only crowd hang on to my every word... and there were many... reach back and embrace me. I've had hundreds of messages from people telling me I inspired them to focus on the joy of life and not give up... whatever trial or tribulations comes their way.
I have never been so full of joy, so happy, so content. I love and appreciate each and everyone who helped make this night happen. Wrinkled Records... we ROCKED! JBH
